ASRock Unveils GAI4G-R9700: A High-Performance Workstation for AI Acceleration
ASRock is making a significant move into the professional workstation market with the introduction of the GAI4G-R9700, a robust 4U system designed to meet the growing demand for local AI acceleration. This new workstation is engineered for both rack-mount and standalone desktop configurations, offering flexibility for a range of deployment scenarios in enterprise and research environments.
Powerful Hardware for Demanding AI Workloads
At the heart of the GAI4G-R9700 is support for AMD’s latest Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series processors, paired with four Radeon AI PRO R9700 Creator GPUs. Each GPU is equipped with 32 GB of VRAM, delivering a combined total of 128 GB of high-speed graphics memory—ideal for intensive AI, machine learning, and content creation tasks.
The system is built on the ASRock WRX90 WS EVO motherboard, which features a horizontal CPU and memory layout. This board supports up to 2 TB of DDR5 memory, providing ample capacity for data-intensive applications. With eight ECC RDIMM slots running at 6400 MT/s in an eight-channel (1DPC) configuration, the GAI4G-R9700 is optimized for both performance and reliability.
Flexible Configuration and Expandability
ASRock’s approach allows users to customize their workstation to specific needs. While the GAI4G-R9700 is expected to ship with four Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPUs, users will need to source their own CPU and memory modules. This flexibility is particularly important for professionals who require large memory capacities—such as 512 GB or more—which can significantly influence the overall system cost.
Robust Power and Efficient Cooling
To support the high-performance components, the workstation is equipped with a single 80 Plus Platinum 2500 W ATX 3.1 power supply, ensuring stable and efficient power delivery even under heavy workloads.
Comprehensive Connectivity and Storage Options
The GAI4G-R9700 offers a wide range of connectivity and storage features. The front panel includes power and reset buttons, status LEDs for power, LAN1/LAN2, system failure, and HDD activity, as well as two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports for quick access.
Internal storage options are versatile, with two 2.5-inch drive bays, one M.2 M-key slot (PCIe 5.0 x4) supporting 22110/2280/2260 form factors, and a second M.2 M-key slot (PCIe 4.0 x4) for 2280/2260 drives. This allows for high-speed NVMe storage and flexible expansion.
The rear I/O panel is equally impressive, featuring 16 DisplayPort 2.1a outputs from the four GPUs, a DisplayPort 1.1a from the BMC, two 10 Gb Intel X710-AT2 LAN ports with PXE support, a dedicated IPMI port for remote management, two USB4 Type-C ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, analog audio in/out, and SPDIF.
Designed for Professional Environments
The GAI4G-R9700 package includes practical accessories such as two foot stands, four graphics card support brackets, and two M.2 mounting screws, ensuring stability and ease of installation. With its advanced hardware, extensive connectivity, and flexible configuration options, ASRock’s new workstation is positioned as a compelling solution for professionals seeking powerful local AI acceleration and high-performance computing.
