Kioxia Unveils EG7 Series SSDs Featuring Next-Generation QLC Technology

Kioxia Corporation has introduced the KIOXIA EG7 Series solid state drives (SSDs), marking a significant advancement as the first client SSDs to utilize Kioxia’s BiCS FLASH generation 8 quadruple-level cell (QLC) technology. This innovative QLC-based solution delivers performance on par with traditional triple-level cell (TLC) SSDs, offering improved total cost of ownership (TCO) for slim laptops, as well as commercial and consumer notebooks and desktops.

Performance and Efficiency for Modern Computing

The KIOXIA EG7 Series SSDs are engineered to bring the benefits of BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC 3D flash memory to a wide range of computing workloads. Designed for PC OEMs, these drives achieve impressive random read and write speeds of up to 1,000 KIOPS, with sequential read speeds reaching up to 7,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 6,200 MB/s. The integration of NVMe 2.0d support provides enhanced flexibility for system design and device management, catering to the evolving needs of modern computing environments.

Versatile Form Factors and Broad Compatibility

The KIOXIA EG7 Series is available in multiple M.2 form factors, including Type 2230, Type 2242, and Type 2280. This range of options ensures compatibility with a diverse array of system configurations, making the drives suitable for devices with varying space constraints and design requirements.

Value-Oriented Design with Advanced Features

Positioned within Kioxia’s value-focused client SSD lineup, the DRAM-less EG7 Series utilizes Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology. By leveraging a portion of the system’s memory, HMB helps optimize power consumption and TCO while maintaining responsive performance. This approach is particularly beneficial for users seeking efficient storage solutions without compromising on speed.

Key Specifications and Security Features

  • Compliant with PCIe 4.0 specification
  • Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) support based on TCG Opal version 2.02
  • Available capacities: 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB

The KIOXIA EG7 Series is currently being sampled to select PC OEM customers. Shipments of PCs equipped with these SSDs are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
