GIGABYTE Launches B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7 Motherboard with Wi-Fi 7 Support
GIGABYTE has unveiled the B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7, a new Socket AM4 motherboard designed to bring modern connectivity to AMD’s established platform. This release coincides with the re-launch of the popular Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, offering users an updated option for high-performance builds that utilize DDR4 memory.
Enhanced Wireless Connectivity with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4
The standout feature of the B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7 is its integration of the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology. Powered by the Realtek RTL8922AE WLAN module, the motherboard supports Wi-Fi 7 with 160 MHz channel width, delivering faster and more reliable wireless networking. Bluetooth 5.4 support is also included, providing improved connectivity for modern peripherals. This marks a significant upgrade over previous models, such as the B550 AORUS Elite AX V2, which featured Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
GIGABYTE has also updated the antenna system, introducing the EZ-plug connector for easier installation and replacing the older screw-type RP-SMA connectors. The new antenna design further enhances wireless performance and user convenience.
Robust Power Delivery and Expansion Options
The B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7 is built on the ATX form factor and features a 12+2 phase VRM, ensuring stable power delivery for demanding CPUs. Power is supplied via a standard 24-pin ATX connector and an 8-pin EPS connector. The AM4 socket supports up to four DDR4 DIMM slots, allowing for ample memory configurations.
For expansion, the motherboard offers a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for graphics cards and a PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe slot for high-speed storage. A second M.2 slot supports PCIe Gen 3 and is connected to the B550 chipset, sharing lanes with a PCIe x16 (electrical x4) slot. Additional slots include a third x16 slot (electrical x1) and a physical x1 slot, providing flexibility for various add-in cards.
Comprehensive Connectivity and Audio Features
Beyond wireless networking, the B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7 includes a 2.5 GbE wired LAN interface powered by a Realtek 8125-series controller, ensuring fast and reliable Ethernet connectivity. The onboard audio is handled by a Realtek ALC1200 HDA codec, delivering high-quality sound for gaming and multimedia.
USB connectivity is extensive, featuring a 5 Gbps USB-C header, two 5 Gbps USB 3.2 ports via headers, two 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, four 5 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and multiple USB 2.0 ports on both the rear panel and internal headers. This wide range of ports ensures compatibility with a variety of modern devices and accessories.
Value and Availability
The GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite WiFi7 is expected to be priced under $160, making it an attractive option for users seeking advanced wireless features and robust performance on the AM4 platform. With its combination of Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and comprehensive connectivity, this motherboard stands out as a forward-looking choice for new and existing AMD builds.
