Lekuo Unveils SouthBridge Max PCIe 4.0 Multi-Function Expansion Card

Lekuo, a well-known manufacturer specializing in a wide range of add-in cards, has introduced the SouthBridge Max PCIe 4.0 Multi-Function Expansion Card, model PB65MX3. This new release builds upon a concept that first appeared as a DIY project earlier this year, now offering a robust commercial solution with expanded features and enhanced compatibility.

Comprehensive Expansion Capabilities

The Lekuo PB65MX3 is powered by the Promontory 21/B650 AMD chipset, delivering a versatile set of connectivity options for modern PC builds. The card provides four SATA 6 Gbps ports and four M.2 NVMe slots, making it ideal for users seeking to maximize storage expansion. In addition to storage, the PB65MX3 includes a variety of high-speed USB ports: one USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 port (20 Gbps), one USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port (10 Gbps), and two USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports (10 Gbps each). This combination ensures broad compatibility with a range of peripherals and storage devices.

Installation and Compatibility

To utilize the full capabilities of the PB65MX3, users will need a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot. Notably, the card does not require PCIe bifurcation support from the host system, simplifying installation and broadening compatibility. The card measures 174 x 69 mm (depth x height) and requires a standard 6-pin power connector. While Lekuo has not specified exact system compatibility, the card is expected to work seamlessly with most AMD AM5 platforms and, based on earlier DIY implementations, should also function with select Intel systems.

Additional Expansion Options: PR51RX1 SouthBridge Mini

Alongside the PB65MX3, Lekuo has also introduced the PR51RX1, known as the SouthBridge Mini PCIe x1 to 10-Port Multi-Function Expansion Card. This model is built around the Realtek RTL9151 multi-interface bridge controller, announced in March. The PR51RX1 offers four SATA 6 Gbps ports, a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, two USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports (10 Gbps), and three USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports (5 Gbps). With dimensions of 110 x 68 mm, this compact card connects via a PCIe 4.0 x1 slot, making it a practical solution for small form factor motherboards that require additional connectivity.

Pricing and Availability

The Lekuo PB65MX3 is listed with an MSRP of $269 USD, but is currently available for $129 USD. Pricing details for the PR51RX1 have not yet been announced, and it appears the product is not yet available for purchase, as links on Lekuo’s official website are currently inactive.

Lekuo’s latest expansion cards offer a compelling mix of storage and connectivity options, catering to enthusiasts and professionals seeking to enhance their PC’s capabilities with reliable, high-performance hardware.
