The global motherboard industry is currently navigating a period of significant financial pressure. Supply Chain Pressures Drive Up Manufacturing Costs

Taiwanese motherboard makers are experiencing widespread cost increases throughout their supply chains. One of the most notable factors is the surge in the price of bare printed circuit boards (PCBs), a fundamental component in motherboard production. Industry sources indicate that PCB costs are expected to rise by at least 50% this year, placing additional strain on manufacturers’ margins.

The situation is further complicated by rising prices for raw materials such as copper, which remains in high demand across the electronics sector. Other essential electronic components—including control chips, power devices, and multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs)—are also facing supply bottlenecks and price hikes. These challenges are contributing to a substantial increase in the overall bill of materials (BOM) for each motherboard.

The cost structure for each motherboard varies significantly, depending on the number of capacitors, power components, control chips, and PCB layers required for different platforms.
