Nanya Technology Unveils Major Investment in Advanced DRAM Manufacturing

Nanya Technology’s Board of Directors has announced a landmark investment plan, committing up to NT$346.6 billion (approximately $10.7 billion USD) to its Fab5A facility between 2026 and 2029. This initiative marks the largest investment in the company’s history and underscores Nanya’s ambition to advance its position in the global DRAM market.

Fab5A Facility: Pioneering 10nm-Class DRAM Production

The Fab5A project will focus on 10nm-class process technologies, spanning nodes from 1b through 1e. A key highlight of this expansion is the introduction of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, a cutting-edge technology that enables higher memory density and improved performance. Nanya has also increased its 2026 capital expenditures budget by 34%, reaching NT$69.7 billion (about $2.16 billion USD). The additional NT$17.7 billion will be allocated to advance payments for equipment, ensuring the Fab5A project remains on schedule.

According to the company’s production roadmap, initial wafer starts are planned for the second half of 2027. Output is expected to reach 30,000 wafers per month in 2028 and 35,900 wafers per month in 2029, with a maximum planned capacity of around 45,000 wafers monthly. Pilot production for the 1c node has already commenced, while development of the 1d node is underway and set to enter pilot production soon. The total investment in Fab5A is projected to reach approximately $16 billion USD, with deployment phased according to market demand.

Strong Financial Performance Driven by DRAM Market Dynamics

Nanya Technology’s commercial performance has been robust, reflecting favorable market conditions. In July, the company reported revenue of NT$43.87 billion (around $1.3 billion USD), representing a 49.3% increase month-over-month and an impressive 719.6% surge year-over-year. This growth has been fueled by rising DRAM prices, particularly significant gains in DDR4 contract pricing.

Notably, just a year ago, DDR4 module prices surpassed those of DDR5 for the first time, with Nanya emerging as one of the primary beneficiaries. The company’s customer base includes major industry players such as NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. Long-term supply agreements now account for approximately 50% of Nanya’s production capacity, with a trend toward converting short-term contracts into long-term partnerships.

With its substantial investment in advanced manufacturing and a strong commercial outlook, Nanya Technology is well-positioned to meet growing global demand for high-performance DRAM solutions.
