CXMT Achieves Over 90% Yield in DDR5 Memory Production
Chinese memory manufacturer CXMT has reached a major milestone in DDR5 DRAM production, with manufacturing yields now exceeding 90%. This achievement places CXMT’s production efficiency on par with industry leaders such as Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron. Reports indicate that CXMT utilizes a 17 nm process node for its DDR5 chips, achieving yields just 2-3% below Samsung’s 10 nm-class node. This narrow gap highlights the rapid progress CXMT has made in memory manufacturing technology.
Efficient Cleanroom Construction and Production Capacity
One of CXMT’s standout strengths is its ability to construct cleanrooms in record time. The company reportedly completes cleanroom construction for its fabrication facilities in just 12 months, compared to the typical two-year timeline required by other major memory manufacturers. This efficiency has enabled CXMT to scale up production rapidly. By the end of the year, CXMT aims to reach a monthly output of 350,000 DRAM wafers. High manufacturing yields mean minimal waste, further enhancing the company’s competitiveness in the global memory market.
OEM Adoption and Market Dynamics
Despite CXMT’s technical achievements, global PC OEMs have shown mixed responses to integrating CXMT DRAM into their products. For example, Dell has implemented a complete ban on CXMT memory in its systems, while HP restricts its use to PCs sold within China. Taiwanese brands such as ASUS and Acer have increased adoption of CXMT DRAM in select models, particularly for devices targeted at the Chinese market and certain emerging regions. However, PCs equipped with CXMT memory modules remain largely unavailable in Western markets.
OEMs remain cautious about sourcing memory from CXMT, partly due to concerns about maintaining strong relationships with established suppliers like Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron. Additionally, all available memory production capacity from the major three manufacturers for 2027 has reportedly been sold out, prompting some OEMs to consider CXMT as an alternative source for additional DRAM supply.
