For example, a 64 GB DDR5 kit rated at 6,000 MT/s, which previously retailed for $222, now commands a staggering $1,272. DDR4 memory, while not as severely affected, has also seen notable price increases. PCPartPicker data shows DDR4 kits have risen by 120% to 177%. While this is significant, the impact is felt most by users of the newer DDR5 platform, where price hikes are far more pronounced.

German tech site ComputerBase reports a 345% year-over-year increase in memory prices for August within the Eurozone, surpassing previous records. The dramatic rise in memory prices is closely tied to supply constraints. Reports indicate that the entire memory production capacity for 2027 has already been fully booked, far ahead of industry forecasts. Major memory manufacturers—Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron—have sold out their production slots for the upcoming year. This leaves little to no additional supply available for third-party buyers seeking more DRAM wafers, further tightening the market.
With demand outpacing supply and no immediate relief in sight, memory prices are likely to remain elevated.
