Thermalright Unveils Assassin X 120-A Dark CPU Cooler
Thermalright has expanded its popular Assassin X 120 series with the launch of the Assassin X 120-A Dark, a refined single-tower CPU cooler designed for modern desktop builds. This latest model retains the slim profile of its predecessor while introducing a striking all-black aesthetic, covering the heatsink, top cover, base, and four 6 mm copper heat pipes for a sleek, unified look.
Enhanced Cooling Performance and Design
The Assassin X 120-A Dark features a significant upgrade in its cooling technology. Unlike the previous version, which used a nickel-plated copper base, the new model adopts a heatpipe direct-touch base. This design allows the four copper heat pipes to make direct contact with the CPU surface, improving heat transfer efficiency. The heat pipes are arranged in a square-pattern layout through the fin stack, ensuring even heat distribution across the heatsink.
The heatsink itself measures 120 x 46 x 151 mm, maintaining a compact footprint suitable for a wide range of PC cases. The cooler is paired with the new Thermalright TL-NT12-R9 V2 120 mm PWM fan, replacing the older TC-C12C V2 fan. The updated fan utilizes an S-FDB (fluid-dynamic) bearing for enhanced durability and quieter operation. It delivers a maximum speed of 2,400 RPM, airflow up to 85.35 CFM, static pressure of 2.95 mm H₂O, and a peak noise level of 33.3 dBA, balancing strong cooling performance with low noise output.
Broad Compatibility for Intel and AMD Platforms
The Assassin X 120-A Dark is engineered for versatility, offering support for a wide range of CPU sockets. It is compatible with Intel LGA 1851, 1700, 1200, and 115x sockets, as well as AMD AM5 and AM4 platforms. This broad compatibility makes it an attractive option for users building or upgrading systems with the latest Intel or AMD processors.
Thermalright has yet to announce official pricing or release dates for the Assassin X 120-A Dark. However, its combination of advanced cooling features, modern design, and wide platform support positions it as a compelling choice for PC enthusiasts seeking efficient and stylish CPU cooling solutions.
