AMD Unveils Threadripper Halo Station at IFA 2026
At the opening keynote of IFA 2026, AMD introduced the Threadripper Halo Station, a groundbreaking liquid-cooled workstation engineered for advanced AI workloads. Our team attended the event to witness the unveiling of this high-performance system, which is built around the new 96-core Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU, codenamed "Shimada Peak," and supports up to four AMD Instinct MI350P accelerators.
Designed for Trillion-Parameter AI Models
The Threadripper Halo Station is purpose-built to run AI models with over one trillion parameters entirely on-premises, eliminating the need for cloud connectivity. Jack Huynh, AMD’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, described the workstation as a new class of device that brings supercomputer-level performance directly to individual users and developers.
Threadripper PRO 9995WX: Zen 5 Powerhouse
At the heart of the Halo Station is the Threadripper PRO 9995WX, a Zen 5-based CPU featuring 96 cores and 192 threads. The processor boasts a boost frequency of up to 5.4 GHz and supports up to 2 TB of DDR5 system memory, making it one of the most powerful workstation CPUs available for demanding AI and data science applications.
AMD Instinct MI350P Accelerators: Exceptional Memory Bandwidth
Each AMD Instinct MI350P accelerator card is equipped with 144 GB of HBM3E memory, delivering a memory bandwidth of 4 TB/s—14 times greater than any LPDDR5X variant. During the IFA 2026 presentation, AMD showcased a configuration with two MI350P PCIe cards, providing a total of 288 GB of HBM3E memory. The system can be expanded to accommodate four cards, offering up to 576 GB of high-bandwidth memory. According to AMD, this capacity is sufficient to store and process a trillion-parameter AI model entirely on-device.
Advanced Liquid Cooling and Power Efficiency
Both the Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU and each Instinct MI350P accelerator are independently liquid-cooled to ensure optimal thermal performance. Each MI350P card has a total board power (TBP) of up to 600 W, highlighting the system’s focus on delivering sustained, high-level compute power for intensive AI workloads.
While AMD has not yet disclosed the complete system specifications, availability, or pricing for the Threadripper Halo Station, the announcement marks a significant step forward in workstation technology for AI research and development.
